đŸ‡ș🇾 July 4th Reflections: Freedom, Gratitude, and Respect

As July 4th arrives, I find myself reflecting on what this holiday means to different people.

Over the years, through Bible studies and conversations with people from different beliefs and backgrounds, I have learned that not everyone views holidays the same way. Some choose to celebrate them, while others do not. I respect those different viewpoints.

For me, whether someone celebrates July 4th or not, I believe everyone should be able to enjoy a peaceful day with family, friends, neighbors, or even a few quiet moments for themselves. Life gives us enough challenges already. We do not need arguments, division, or drama to take away from a day that can be spent appreciating the good things around us.

As an American, I appreciate what this country has provided throughout its history. Like any nation, it has strengths and flaws, victories and struggles. I do not spend much time debating politics, and I do not align myself strongly with any political party. Instead, I try to focus on what I have personally experienced.

As a Deaf American, I have encountered challenges, misunderstandings, discrimination, opportunities, and many blessings along the way. Those experiences have helped shape who I am today. Despite life's difficulties, I remain grateful for the freedom to choose where I live, what work I do, what I write, and even the simple joy of sharing life with my dogs.

This year feels especially meaningful to me. As our nation marks its 250th birthday, 2026 is also the year I launched Robb Paddy Journey. Both milestones remind me that every journey begins with a single step and continues one day at a time.

My faith also reminds me that this present world is temporary. While people may disagree about many things, I find comfort in trusting God with the future. Jesus said:

"In my Father's house are many rooms..." (John 14:2)

That verse reminds me that there is more ahead than what we can currently see. While I may not understand everything about the future, I trust that God does.

In the meantime, I choose to focus on today: being thankful, treating others with kindness, enjoying the people and animals I love, and moving forward one step at a time.

And speaking of enjoying today, I am still a Chicago native at heart. Summer cookouts, Chicago-style hot dogs, cold drinks on a warm afternoon, and fireworks lighting up the night sky bring back great memories. Sometimes life's simplest moments are the ones we remember most.

So wherever you are this July 4th, whether you celebrate the holiday or simply enjoy a day off, I hope you find a reason to smile, a moment of peace, and time with the people who matter most.

Happy July 4th. Stay safe, be kind, and keep moving forward.
