October is Bullying Prevention Month, a time to remember that words and actions can leave lasting marks. While many conversations focus on preventing bullying, I also think it's important to talk about healing from it.
Recently, I watched the Netflix series Teach You a Lesson. Although it's a fictional story, it reminded me how deeply bullying can affect people's lives. It also reminded me that schools, workplaces, organizations, and communities are made up of imperfect people. As long as humans are involved, mistakes, unfairness, and hurt will sometimes happen.
That doesn't excuse bullying—but it helps us recognize that no human system will ever be perfect.
Looking back on my own life, I remember experiences that were painful and difficult. Like many others, I've faced bullying and misunderstanding. Those experiences shaped me in ways I didn't always understand at the time.
Over the years, I've realized that carrying bitterness only keeps old wounds alive. Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending something never happened or saying it was acceptable. It means choosing not to let the past control who we become.
My faith has helped me see that while people fail, God never does. Human institutions may disappoint us, but God's love, justice, and mercy remain constant.
The Bible reminds us:
"Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." — Ephesians 4:32
Healing is often a journey rather than a single moment. We may never erase painful memories, but we can choose how those memories shape our future.
If you've experienced bullying, I hope you know this: your story isn't defined by the people who tried to tear you down. Your value comes from who you are—and, for me, from knowing that God sees us with love, grace, and purpose.
As we observe Bullying Prevention Month, may we not only stand against bullying but also encourage kindness, understanding, forgiveness, and hope. Sometimes the greatest victory isn't getting even—it's continuing to move forward with compassion and faith.
